Umoja Health (UH) is a community-led approach to address long-standing disparities in health. UH was founded in 2020 at the request of members of the University of California, San Francisco Cancer Center Community Advisory Board. UH started with a focus on COVID-19 testing in San Francisco Bay Area Black/African American communities and evolved to address chronic disease and cancer in diverse communities. We detail UH’s approach to addressing the separation between public health and health care, highlighting the coalition’s effects on local health equity. (Am J Public Health.
